Separate guest sleeping places from crew space

For an overnight charter, compare guest cabins, bed arrangements and any additional bunks before relying on the berth total. Ask separately about day-passenger capacity if you plan to invite people aboard; a sleeping capacity does not establish that limit.

SOUNION II, a Benetti motor yacht presented by Istion in Greece, illustrates the distinction: ten guests in four en-suite cabins, including two Pullman berths in one master suite within that ten-guest total, and six crew in separate compartments. This is a layout example, not a promise that the yacht is available for your dates.

Establish the crew and service scope

In that SOUNION II example, the crew roles include a captain, engineer, deckhand, chef and two stewardesses. An included skipper on another offer does not by itself establish this broader service. Ask which roles are included and how guest and crew accommodation are allocated.

Check the actual equipment and services you expect to use, and any charge or condition attached to them. Select the motor-yacht category deliberately: a motor boat or power catamaran is a separate product comparison, even when its marketing also uses the word yacht.

If you want a bareboat motor yacht, first ask whether that arrangement is offered for the specific yacht and which experience and documents the charter company requires.

Compare fuel and operating expenses explicitly

An advertised charter fee may leave operating costs outside it. For example, Istion's published crewed arrangement includes the yacht, standard equipment and crew services, while fuel, provisions, port or marina charges and other specified expenses are separate. SOUNION II is advertised on a plus-expenses basis; the selected charter agreement must confirm its terms.

Where an Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA, applies, establish what it pays for, who keeps the accounts and how the balance is settled. In Istion's published arrangement, the captain manages the expense account and unused funds or overruns are reconciled. This is an operator example, not a rule for every motor yacht.

Ask for the expense estimate against your intended route, with fuel assumptions explained. Confirm taxes, delivery charges if applicable, payment terms and the security deposit separately. An APA and a security deposit answer different questions, so ask how each is treated in your offer.
